Guwahati: As lakhs of devotees prepare to visit the sacred Kamakhya Temple during the Ambubachi Mahayog 2025, Guwahati Police has issued a detailed set of guidelines to ensure safety, order, and spiritual harmony during the event.
The four-day religious observance will begin on June 22 and continue until June 25, with the temple gates remaining closed from 2:56 PM on June 22 to the early hours of June 26. Devotees will be allowed to resume darshan on June 26 morning.
Entry Timings and Crowd Control
Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta announced that entry to Nilachal Hills will be allowed only between 5:00 AM and 6:00 PM from June 22 to 25. This restriction is in place to manage the heavy rush and avoid accidents in landslide-prone areas.
“No entry will be allowed outside these hours,” Mahanta said. “Devotees should plan their visit accordingly.”
Transport and Road Use
Only ferry vehicles carrying on-duty essential service personnel will be permitted to travel up and down the temple route. The Pandu–Kamakhya road will stay completely closed for both the public and VIPs, and will be used only for emergency services.
No VIP Darshan This Year
From June 22 to 27, there will be no VIP or special darshan arrangements. All visitors must follow the general queue system.
Health and Safety Advisory
Due to the massive gathering and unpredictable weather, the police have strongly advised senior citizens and infants not to visit during the main Ambubachi days.
Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel will be stationed in sensitive areas to assist and prevent mishaps.
Maintaining the Spiritual Atmosphere
As per spiritual tradition, Maa Kamakhya is believed to rest during this time, so loud music, sound systems, and processions are strictly banned around the temple complex. Devotees are encouraged to maintain silence and focus on prayer and meditation.
Reopening and Darshan on June 26
When the temple reopens on June 26, devotees must gather at Bongshi Bagaan Ground, from where temple volunteers will lead them in queues to the temple for darshan.
Footwear and Dress Code
No shoes or sandals will be allowed beyond the Kamakhya foothills/gate. Devotees should come prepared for this regulation.
Traffic and Emergency Support
Guwahati Traffic Police will soon release a separate notification regarding traffic diversions, parking zones, and restricted areas.
In case of any emergency, the public is urged to dial 112, the state emergency helpline.
Call for Public Support
Commissioner Mahanta stressed that this year’s security arrangements have been upgraded to handle the crowd better than previous years. He appealed to all citizens, devotees, and volunteers to fully cooperate with police and administration to ensure the smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling conduct of Ambubachi Mahayog 2025.
