Barpeta: GNRC Hospital organised an Accident Awareness and Prevention programme at the Barpeta Press Club as part of its December awareness campaign.

The doctors said that accidents kill or injure a large number of people every year in India. In road accidents alone, one person dies every two minutes. Accidents are also a major cause of death among young people. Despite improvements in roads and policies, deaths due to road accidents have increased in recent years.
GNRC Hospital said that in the last 30 years, it has treated over 93,000 accident victims from Assam and the Northeast. Out of these, around 4,500 patients were from Barpeta district.
Dr. Amrit Kumar Saikia said that head and spinal injuries from road accidents are very dangerous. He advised people to wear helmets and seat belts, avoid drinking and driving, and take injured persons to hospital quickly. He also said that many accidents happen due to falls at home, in bathrooms, on stairs, at construction sites, and during farm work.
Dr. Nipank Goswami said that accidents can cause serious internal injuries which may not be visible from outside. He said early testing and treatment are very important to avoid long-term problems.
Md. Rashidul Islam demonstrated CPR and explained how quick action during emergencies can save lives.
GNRC Hospital said that awareness, safety measures and quick response can prevent accidents and reduce deaths. The hospital also reaffirmed its commitment to improving emergency services and spreading safety awareness across Assam and the Northeast.
