GCU Hosts Book Launch for Prof. Gour Gopal Banik’s New Novel

Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) on Monday launched Silent Scream of the Evening Sky, the latest novel by Prof. Gour Gopal Banik, Dean of the School of Management and Commerce.

The event drew faculty, students, and special guests. Former Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Thakur Viswavidyalaya, Hojai, Prof. Amalendu Chakraborty attended as the chief guest. He said the novel reflects a wide range of deep emotions. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kandarpa Das praised the meaningful title and lauded Prof. Banik’s artistic talent and creative vision.

Prof. Banik is an established author, with his earlier novel Master of the Fate released in January 2025. Beyond writing, he is a motivational speaker and an international-level bodybuilder.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, Prof. Banik has taught Financial Accounting, Taxation, Auditing, and Intellectual Property Rights. He has served as Head of the Department of Accountancy at Gauhati Commerce College and as Deputy Director at Gauhati University’s Institute of Distance and Open Learning. He holds degrees in Commerce, Law, English, and Music, along with a Ph.D.

His accolades include the “Best Paper Award” at Kurukshetra University’s International Gita Seminar (2023), “Best Teacher and Researcher in Accountancy Award” in Thailand (2024), and the “Research Excellence Award” from Govt. Digvijay Autonomous P.G. College, Chhattisgarh (2024).

The university said the book launch reflects its commitment to promoting the creative and scholarly achievements of its faculty and students.
