Guwahati: The NSS Cell of Gauhati University, in collaboration with the Forest Department (Kamrup East Division, Basistha), celebrated Van Mahotsav 2025 with a tree plantation drive at Batahghuli Hills, Panjabari.

As part of its ongoing initiative “Let’s Make the Hills Green,” the GU NSS Cell has been planting saplings in the hill areas of greater Kamrup for the past five years to combat global warming and promote a greener environment.

The program began with the planting of saplings by Dr. Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University, and Hemanta Adhikari, Range Forest Officer, Kamrup Metro. The event was supported by Guwahati-based NGO Serve Smile Foundation and NAFED.

A total of 150 saplings were planted during the drive. Dr. Kakati encouraged participants to stay actively involved in ecological restoration efforts. Around 50 NSS volunteers along with local residents took part in the event, showing strong community spirit and environmental responsibility.
