Guwahati : The first wave of floods has hit Assam, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is conducting rescue operations.

The 1st Battalion of the NDRF, located in Patgaon, Azara, Guwahati (Assam), has 18 expert teams prepared to respond to any disaster. Currently, 10 expert teams have been deployed in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas of the four northeastern states. Furthermore, one expert team each has been stationed in Cachar, Dima Hasao, Jorhat, Barpeta, and Bongaigaon districts of Assam, in addition to the deployment at Ujanbajar Ghat, Guwahati. These teams are focused on saving lives during the flood situation.

On June 21, 2023, in response to a request from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Baksa District, an additional NDRF team was mobilized from Patgaon, Guwahati, to Tamulpur Sub-division.

Due to the arrival of the southwest monsoon, many rivers in various districts are flowing above the danger level, causing several villages to be submerged.
