Farmers’ Awareness Programme on Agrometeorology Held in Boko

Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, organized a Farmers’ Awareness Programme on Agrometeorological Services in Barapara, Boko, on 22 January 2025. Local farmers participated and interacted with meteorologists to learn about weather-based farming practices.

Ms. Doli Haloi, Meteorologist, welcomed the farmers and highlighted the India Meteorological Department’s 150-year legacy of providing weather and Agro Advisory Services. Dr. Gayatry Kalita, Scientist-D, briefed the attendees about the programme, while K N Mohan, Scientist-G and Head of RMC, emphasized the importance of agrometeorology in farming.

Dr. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, Scientist-F, thanked the community for their participation and encouraged farmers to use agromet advisories to boost crop production. Sunit Das, Scientist-F, explained AAS bulletins and mobile apps like Meghdoot and Damini.

Hands-on training was conducted by Sayani Hossain, Meteorologist, and Dr. Sudip Kumar Kundu, Research Associate. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Reeta Brahma Gayary, Meteorologist.
