Guwahati: A strong earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale shook Guwahati and several parts of Assam and Northeast India on Sunday afternoon.
According to official data, the quake struck at 4:41 PM (IST) with its epicentre in Udalguri district, Assam. The tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 5 km, with coordinates 26.78°N, 92.33°E.
Residents across Guwahati and nearby districts felt strong tremors, prompting many to rush out of their homes and offices. So far, there are no reports of casualties or major damage, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
