Dr. Alekhya Barua from Kangspora Satra, Titabar in Jorhat, has dedicated his life to keeping Assam’s Sattriya culture alive. From a young age, he was deeply connected with this tradition and later became a well-known artiste and cultural leader.

Dr. Barua has won the Best Actor award more than five times at the All India level. In 2002, the Government of India gave him a National Scholarship for his research on “Scientific Traditions and Bhaona.” He is also a skilled player of the Khol and Tabla, spreading the rhythm of Assam’s music.

As the State President of the youth wing of Asom Satra Mahasabha (Samannita Yuvatirtha), he led a big campaign where nearly 1.5 lakh people signed to demand the return of Guru Sankardeva’s Vrindavani Vastra from London and Paris. In 2016, he also began the weaving of a replica Vrindavani Vastra in Assam.

Today, Dr. Barua also works for society. He has started workshops on Garbh Sanskar, where more than 500 pregnant women chant ancient verses for spiritual well-being. He once gave musical therapy to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Assam’s cultural legend.

At present, Dr. Barua is the Working President of Asom Namghar Mahasabha, General Secretary of Upper Assam Sanskar Bharati, and Vice-Chairman of the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation.
