Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated the newly built flyover connecting Rukminigaon Road and Bormotoria Link Road at Down Town Point in Guwahati. Named Bhagadatta Flyover-2 after the ancient Kamarupa king, the four-lane, 660-metre-long flyover was completed in just nine months—half the sanctioned time—and cost ₹112 crore.
At the event, the CM also announced that the flyover in the city’s Super Market area will now be known as Bhagadatta Flyover-1. He said the project is part of the government’s larger effort to improve Guwahati’s traffic and infrastructure. The flyover is built using advanced composite structure technology by M/s RITES India Ltd and includes parking space beneath it to support local businesses.
Dr. Sarma said that Assam’s youth were fully involved in the project’s construction and highlighted future projects like:
- New ramps at Ganeshguri flyover
- Upcoming flyovers at Arya Nagar, Maligaon, Radha Govinda Baruah Road, Cycle Factory, and Bharalumukh
- The Noonmati–Chandmari flyover, set to open in April
- Narengi–Kurua and Guwahati–North Guwahati bridges to be opened by January
- A new airport terminal and elevated road to Jalukbari by year-end
He added that PM Narendra Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the Guwahati Ring Road and Narengi–Kurua bridge in September.
The CM said Guwahati is becoming a major employment hub in the Northeast, with 10 lakh job opportunities created. He also mentioned that several global companies are showing interest in setting up call centres in the city.
The event was attended by Ministers Atul Bora, Jogen Mohan, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Prasanta Phukan, MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, MLA Atul Bora, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, former MP Queen Oja, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, and PWD Special Secretary Pawan Teron.
