Guwahati: A team of four Chhattisgarh Police personnel was detained and questioned by Guwahati Police over allegations of taking bribes during a cybercrime investigation. The team includes one inspector, one head constable, and two constables.
A case has been registered at Dispur Police Station based on a complaint that the team demanded and accepted money from some accused persons.
According to media reports the Raipur team had come to Guwahati on Sunday for a cybercrime case. They first arrested one accused from Bihar and later picked up three more persons in Guwahati on Monday.
According to the complaint, the police team released two of the accused after taking money from them, while another person was kept in custody for further payment.
After receiving the complaint from the two released persons, Guwahati Police took action and brought the entire team to the police station for questioning.
An FIR has been filed under bailable sections. After initial questioning, the police personnel were allowed to leave but were asked to appear again for further investigation.
The remaining accused in the cybercrime case has been released on a personal bond.
Police said the investigation is still going on, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
