Guwahati: Assam’s international weightlifter Siddhant Gogoi secured gold medals in the IWLF Junior, Youth, and Senior National Weightlifting Championships in Himachal Pradesh. Competing in the senior men’s 67kg category, Siddhant lifted a total of 286 kg—122 kg in snatch and 164 kg in clean and jerk—clinching the top spot.
Siddhant, who represented India at the Asian and Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships last year, where he won gold, made a strong senior debut by winning another gold medal. Additionally, he had an impressive performance in the 2023 Asian Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships, bagging two gold and one silver medal in the 61kg category.
In the youth boys’ 67kg category, Abhinav Gogoi of Assam won a silver medal, lifting 117 kg in snatch and 137 kg in clean and jerk. Isangpha Gogoi also made her mark by winning two bronze medals in the junior and youth categories in the 55kg category, with a total lift of 167 kg.
The Assam Weightlifting Association, through its Secretary Bhabjyoti Goswami, congratulated the winners and expressed optimism for more medals from Assam in the ongoing tournament, which will conclude on October 13.
