Mumbai : Assamese independent film “Yoodha – The Warrior” has won the Best LGBTQ Feature Film Award at the Utsav International Film Festival (UIFF) 2025, held at RDX Studio, Aram Nagar, Mumbai.
Directed by Smriti Prakash Boruah and produced by SPB Films in association with Sampreeti Welfare Society, the film was officially screened on December 11, the opening day of the festival. The award marks a major achievement for Assamese cinema on a national platform.
“Yoodha – The Warrior” tells the powerful story of a transgender woman and her struggle for identity, dignity, acceptance and love in modern society. The film presents an emotional and realistic portrayal of her journey, highlighting issues of inclusion, humanity and social acceptance.
Through sensitive storytelling and strong performances, the film delivers a message that goes beyond language and regional boundaries.
Reacting to the win, director Smriti Prakash Boruah said the award is a proud and emotional moment for the entire team. He said the film is an appeal for empathy and dignity towards the transgender community and thanked the festival for recognising the story on a prestigious platform like Mumbai.
The Utsav International Film Festival received entries from over 50 countries, making the recognition of “Yoodha – The Warrior” a significant honour. The film received strong appreciation from filmmakers, critics and audiences during its screening.
Festival Director Soumitra Bagchi praised the film for its sensitive storytelling, strong visuals and impactful climax, calling it a relevant and much-needed narrative.
