Assam Government Promotes and Transfers Several IPS Officers

Guwahati: The Assam government has carried out a major reshuffle in the police administration by promoting and transferring several IPS officers. The decision was issued by the Home and Political Department through an official notification and will come into effect from January 1, 2026.

As per the order, a number of senior IPS officers have been promoted to higher ranks, including Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Selection Grade officers. The move is aimed at strengthening the leadership structure of Assam Police and improving law and order across the state.

Senior IPS officer Vineeta Sharma (1996 batch), currently serving with a central intelligence agency, has been granted proforma promotion to a higher administrative grade.

Among officers of the 2008 batch, Kangkan Jyoti Saikia has been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police and posted as IGP of Special Branch, Assam, Guwahati. Indrani Baruah, also of the same batch, has been promoted to IGP and will continue in her role in Guwahati.

Several officers of the 2012 batch have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police. These include Sreejith T., Jayshree Khera, David Neitham, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta and Dr. Bedanta Madhab Raikhowa, who have been assigned important responsibilities in different wings such as security, CID and vigilance.

In addition, many IPS officers of the 2013 batch have been promoted to the Selection Grade. The list includes Thube Prateek Vijaykumar, Dr. Robin Kumar, Ramandeep Kaur, Yuvraj, Bhanwar Lal Meena, Gautam Borah, Ranjan Bhuyan, Pranabjyoti Goswami, Amrit Bhuyan, Sudhakar Singh and Rajen Singh. Most of them will continue in their present postings until further orders.

All promotions and transfers will be effective from January 1, 2026.
