Assam down town University Launches Online Education Initiative
Guwahati: Assam down town University (AdtU) marked a significant milestone on Tuesday with the formal launch of its Online Education initiative, held at the Council Room, A Block, on the university campus. The event began at 2:30 p.m. with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the triumph of knowledge over ignorance and the institution’s commitment to accessible, boundary-free education.
The launch was attended by senior university officials, including Resident Trustee Gariasi Dutta, Registrar Dr. Ashim Barman, Dean of Commerce and Management Dr. Seema Sarma, General Manager (Development) Anjan Jyoti Das, Deputy Registrar (Academics) Nitul Jyoti Das, Deputy Director (E-Learning and Technical) Dr. Mrinal Goswami, and Assistant Manager Indraneel Sekhar Nath.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar emphasised the transformative role of online learning in today’s fast-changing world, enabling students from across the globe to access flexible, affordable, and high-quality higher education.
Executive Dean (Academics) Dr. Mahendra Kumar Modi assured that online programs would match the academic rigour of on-campus courses while embedding industry-relevant skills to boost employability.
Keynote speaker Dr. Mala Dutta, Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education, detailed the vision, program offerings, and technological framework underpinning the initiative, highlighting advanced learning management systems, immersive content, and strong student support.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion among faculty and guests on the potential of online education to democratise learning and serve underserved communities worldwide.
