Guwahati: Assam down town University successfully hosted the IndiaSkills Northeast Regional Competition 2026 from January 19 to 21 at its Hospitality Lab under the Discipline of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The prestigious vocational skills championship was organised by the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) under the national IndiaSkills initiative.
The Northeast regional competition brought together young participants from across the region, who showcased their skills in key areas of tourism and hospitality, including Cooking, Bakery, Patisserie & Confectionery, Hotel Reception, and Restaurant Service. Contestants demonstrated exceptional technical ability, creativity, and professionalism through a series of practical challenges aligned with industry standards.
Events included hotel check-in and check-out simulations, table setting and napkin folding, salad and soup service, fruit and gâteau carving, flambé techniques, wine decanting, full-course dinner service, and specialised bakery and confectionery tasks.
The competition highlighted the importance of skill-based education in the hospitality sector and reaffirmed Assam down town University’s commitment to nurturing industry-ready professionals capable of meeting evolving global hospitality demands.
