In a recent statement, Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, stirred controversy by predicting that Assam Congress president, Bhupen Kumar Borah, would join the BJP by 2025.

Dr. Sarma referred to the Congress party as a ‘fixed deposit’ of the BJP, suggesting that members often switch allegiance to the ruling party.

“I can confidently say that by January-February 2025, Bhupen Borah will align with the BJP. We have already prepared two constituencies for him,” Dr. Sarma announced during a press interaction at the residence of the party’s Sonitpur constituency candidate, Ranjit Dutta.

However, in response to Dr. Sarma’s assertion, Mr. Borah dismissed the claim as a tactic to divert attention from pressing issues. Speaking at a press conference in Jorhat, Mr. Borah labeled Dr. Sarma’s statements as ‘mind games’ aimed at shifting focus from genuine concerns.

The exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party in Assam. As speculation swirls around Bhupen Borah’s future political affiliations, the state remains poised for further political maneuvering in the coming years.
