Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, made many important decisions in a meeting. These steps will help people across the state.
1. New Plan to Stop Human-Elephant Conflict
- A new scheme called Gaja Mitra will start in 8 districts where elephants often enter villages.
- Local people will form teams in 80 places to help forest officials during the rice-growing season.
- These teams will guide elephants safely and protect people and crops.
2. More Salary for Village Heads
- The monthly salary of Gaon Pradhans (village heads) will increase from ₹9,000 to ₹14,000.
- This change will start from October 1, 2025 and will also apply to forest village heads.
3. Help for Monks in Satras
- Celibate monks (called Udasin Bhakats) who live in Satras will get ₹1,500 every month as financial help.
4. New Rules for Private Hospitals
- Hospitals cannot keep dead bodies for unpaid bills. They must hand over the body within 2 hours.
- Families can call the 104 helpline to report problems.
- Government officers will take fast action against any hospital that breaks the rules.
- Punishment may include fines up to ₹5 lakh and even closing the hospital.
5. Support for Bell Metal Workers
- Bell metal makers in Assam will get back the state GST (SGST) they paid. This will help local artisans.
6. Money for Class 10 Students
- All Class 10 students in government-recognised schools will get ₹300 every month from November 1, 2025 till their HSLC exam in 2026.
- The money will be sent directly to their bank accounts.
7. Higher Pay for Anganwadi Workers
- From October 1, 2025:
- Anganwadi Workers will get ₹8,000/month (₹1,500 more).
- Anganwadi Helpers will get ₹4,000/month (₹750 more).
8. Two Villages Removed from Tribal List
- Two villages — Mornoi Bebejia and Bebejia — in Lakhimpur will be removed from the tribal area list, as they have fewer tribal people.
9. New Name for a University
- Rabindranath Tagore University will now be called Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya.
