Guwahati: Guwahati witnessed a shocking armed robbery on Monday night when a gang of four miscreants looted cash and valuables from a businessman’s residence in Ganeshpara, right in the heart of the city. The incident took place around 9 pm at the house of businessman Anil Deka, located in Champak Nagar under the Fatasil Ambari police station area.

According to victim family, the four Hindi-speaking robbers arrived in a white luxury Swift car and rang the doorbell of the house. Taking advantage of the absence of the homeowner, the gang forcibly entered the premises and threatened Anil Deka’s wife, Karbi Deka, and the family’s driver, Manoj, at gunpoint. The miscreants also used a dagger to intimidate and assault the victims before carrying out the loot.

The robbers reportedly spent nearly 40 minutes inside the house, during which they ransacked the rooms and looted cash, gold ornaments, and other valuable items. Karbi Deka and the driver sustained injuries after being assaulted and manhandled by the gang. After committing the crime, the robbers fled the scene without any resistance.

The entire incident, from the gang’s entry into the house to their escape, was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the residence. Preliminary investigation suggests that the robbers had covered their faces partially with black cloth to avoid identification.

Recounting the ordeal, Karbi Deka said the robbers demanded ₹2 lakh and threatened to kill them if the money was not handed over. When she told them that such an amount was not available, the miscreants took around ₹1.5 lakh in cash, including money kept for society-related purposes, along with the gold bangles and ring she was wearing at the time.

Following the incident, Karbi Deka lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Fatasil Ambari Police Station on Monday night. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and immediately launched an investigation. A police team visited the spot the same night to inspect the crime scene and examine CCTV footage.

Police officials said efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused, and several leads are being verified. Further investigation is in progress.
