Guwahati: Sankor Jyoti Baruah, the General Secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), announced his resignation, citing personal reasons. He emphasized that the decision to step down was his own, made without external pressure.
In a social media statement, Baruah addressed the controversy surrounding him, stating that the truth behind the allegations would be revealed in court. His resignation follows accusations made by a female student, who claimed that Baruah had emotionally and physically abused her, misled her with false promises of marriage, and threatened her life.
AASU, after discussions sparked by the allegations, chose to address the issue while giving Baruah the option to voluntarily step down. Baruah admitted to a past relationship with the student but said it ended six months ago.
