Guwahati: Assam Unnayan Parishad will celebrate its 21st Foundation Day on 9 January 2026 at the Shilpgram Auditorium, Panjabari, Guwahati.
On this occasion, Parishad President Mousum Kumar Uzir announced that the prestigious ‘Gana Silpi’ Award 2026 will be conferred on renowned Assamese singer Manisha Hazarika. The award has been presented since 2012 in memory of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
General Secretary Chandan Bordoloi also announced the introduction of a new rolling award titled ‘Assam Kantha’, instituted in memory of late singer Zubeen Garg. For the first year (2026), the award will be given to noted vocalist Bipul Chetia Phukan.
Celebration Committee President Sajan Bhuyan and Secretary Jintu Deka informed that eminent personalities will attend the event. The Parishad has invited all art and culture lovers of Assam to participate in the programme.
