Guwahati: Assam is setting its sights on hosting one of the biggest global music icons — Colombian superstar Shakira — in Guwahati next year.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the Chief Minister said, “There was a bit of discussion about inviting Shakira. We have not gone deep into the planning yet, but I am working to bring the world-famous singer to Guwahati.”
Sarma highlighted that global concerts can play a big role in boosting Assam’s tourism and entertainment economy. He said such events will help attract visitors, promote the state internationally, and turn Assam into a preferred destination for large-scale cultural shows.
The Chief Minister added that Assam now aims to host a series of global artists in cities like Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Silchar to strengthen the concert tourism ecosystem.
He also mentioned that this new ambition comes after the huge crowd response to American rapper Post Malone’s show in Guwahati. The Grammy-nominated artist’s performance marked a major moment for the state, proving its capability to organize world-class events.
With preparations underway, Assam is now looking forward to what could be its biggest musical event yet — a Shakira concert that may put the state even more firmly on the global entertainment map.
