BJP Says 2026 Assam Election Will Be a Key Fight for Indigenous Rights
Guwahati — The Assam BJP today said that the 2026 Assembly Election will be a decisive fight to protect the rights and identity of indigenous Assamese people. In a press release, BJP Media Panellist Dilip Kumar Sharma said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken historic steps to preserve Assamese culture and heritage.
The BJP highlighted major initiatives such as Classical Language status for Assamese, efforts to bring back the Vrindavani Vastra, setting up Sukafa University and Kanaklata Barua University, and building the grand Lachit Borphukan statue in Jorhat. The party said earlier governments failed to fulfil these demands.
The statement also said that the government’s actions against child marriage, illegal encroachment, and infiltration have strengthened public confidence. According to the BJP, over 1,30,000 bighas of land have already been cleared from illegal occupation.
The party added that top BJP leaders, including B.L. Santhosh, Chief Minister Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Dilip Saikia, held extensive strategy meetings in Guwahati to prepare for the 2026 polls.
