Guwahati: The deadline to submit affidavits to the Justice Saumitra Saikia Judicial Commission, which is investigating the mysterious death of Assam’s music legend Zubeen Garg in Singapore, ended today.

The one-member commission, led by Gauhati High Court judge Justice Saumitra Saikia, started receiving affidavits on 3 November. By the final day, the commission collected nearly 40 affidavits from individuals, organisations, and public representatives.

On the last day, Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia submitted his affidavit. He said he included several important points to help the investigation and ensure justice for Zubeen Garg.

A team from the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) also submitted an affidavit, claiming that the SIT investigation is not heading in the right direction. The team included president Rajuraj Borpatragohain, general secretary Bidyut Saikia, Bitu Sonowal, organising secretary Akash Doley, assistant general secretary Chiraj Choudhury, and publicity secretary Rahul Choudhury.

Over the past few days, many organisations and individuals, including the Assam Nationalist Youth and Students’ Council, have submitted their affidavits to support the probe.

Earlier, the Assam Government had already formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. The SIT is scheduled to submit its chargesheet on 10 December.

Authorities hope that all affidavits received by the judicial commission will help reveal the truth behind Zubeen Garg’s sudden and mysterious death and ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
