Assamese Selling More Land to Muslims: CM Himanta
Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed serious concern over the growing trend of land transfer in Assam, stating that Hindus have sold far more land to Muslims, while land sold by Muslims to Hindus remains very limited.
Addressing the media after the state cabinet meeting at Janata Bhawan, Sarma said, “The demographic change in Assam is no longer just about numbers — it has now extended to property ownership. A new chapter of self-surrender among Assamese people has already begun.”
The Chief Minister further claimed that while the Muslim population has decreased in some areas, the volume of land owned by Muslims has increased in almost every block of the state.
Citing population data between 2001 and 2011, Sarma said that the trend of land ownership clearly reflects deeper demographic and economic shifts taking place across Assam.
