Guwahati: Purabi Dairy, the largest dairy cooperative in Northeast India, has opened a new milk booth at ASTC’s Mini-ISBT in Khanapara, Guwahati, on August 4. The booth was inaugurated by Assam Cooperation and Transport Minister Jogen Mohan, along with senior officials and dignitaries.
The new booth is part of Purabi Dairy’s ongoing efforts to make fresh and nutritious dairy products more accessible to the public. It offers a wide range of items including pouch milk (toned, standard, and full cream), UHT milk (tetrapak), flavoured milk, curd, lassi, paneer, ghee, cream, and Purabi ice-creams.
Purabi Dairy’s products are produced by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and marketed by North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL) — a joint venture between the Government of Assam and NDDB.
Minister Jogen Mohan praised the initiative, saying, “This partnership between Purabi Dairy and ASTC brings together two essential aspects of public welfare — mobility and nutrition. It makes access to healthy food easier for commuters and supports a healthier Assam.”
ASTC Managing Director Chinmoy Prakash Phookan added, “We aim to add value for daily commuters by offering nutritious dairy products at major ASTC hubs. Similar milk booths will come up across other ASTC centres in the coming months.”
Purabi Dairy is using World Bank-funded prefabricated booths under the APART project to speed up setup and ensure cold chain efficiency. These booths are equipped with coolers and are designed to keep products safe and fresh, even in high heat.
NEDFL Managing Director Satya Brata Bose shared that Purabi’s growing booth network — now at locations like GMCH, Janata Bhawan, Assam Zoo, AIIMS Changsari, and Ganeshguri — aims to make healthy food easily available to city residents. He also said the COFO (Company Owned, Franchisee Operated) model allows local entrepreneurs to quickly start a dairy business, with booths ready in just two days after formalities.
