Morigaon: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has witnessed a significant increase in both tourist numbers and revenue in the 2024–25 tourism year. The tourism season, which began on October 15, 2024, recorded a total of 34,577 visitors — an increase of over 4,000 tourists compared to the previous year.
According to Pranjal Borah, the Regional Forest Officer of Pobitora, this year 33,940 Indian tourists and 637 foreign tourists visited the sanctuary. The total revenue collected during this period amounted to ₹61,46,475.
In comparison, the 2023–24 tourism year saw 30,305 visitors — including 29,815 Indian and 641 foreign tourists — with a total revenue collection of ₹54,17,300.
Pobitora continues to be a major wildlife destination in Assam, thanks to its rich biodiversity. The sanctuary is home to 107 one-horned rhinoceroses, over 100 swamp deer, various species of deer, reptiles, and approximately 11,000 birds. Of the bird population, about 80% are migratory species, while the rest are local birds that feed on aquatic plants and animals.
To enhance the experience for visitors, the sanctuary offers 14 elephants for elephant rides and 20 jeeps for safari tours. With these facilities and increasing tourist interest, Pobitora remains a key attraction in Assam’s eco-tourism map.
