Guwahati: The Assam Government has allowed restaurants in Guwahati to remain open till 3:30 AM on selected days to enable football fans to watch the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and final together.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision on Wednesday, stating that restaurants in the city will be permitted to operate until 3:30 AM on July 15, 16, 19 and 20.
The Chief Minister said the decision was taken to allow football enthusiasts to enjoy the World Cup’s crucial matches without inconvenience.
He also said that district administrations outside Guwahati may grant similar permission if local restaurant associations submit requests and there is sufficient public demand.
Spain and Argentina will clash in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final after winning their respective semi-final matches. The title clash will be played at MetLife Stadium.
In the first semi-final, Spain defeated France 2-0 to book their place in the final. Mikel Oyarzabal gave Spain the lead from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute before Pedro Porro doubled the advantage with a goal in the 58th minute. Spain’s defence kept France scoreless throughout the match.
In the second semi-final, defending champions Argentina came from behind to beat England 2-1. England took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon. Argentina equalised in the 85th minute when Enzo Fernández scored after an assist from Lionel Messi. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Lautaro Martínez headed home the winner, again assisted by Messi, to send Argentina into the final.
The final will see the reigning World Cup champions Argentina take on the European champions Spain in a battle for football’s biggest prize.
