Guwahati: A woman has been booked by Guwahati Traffic Police after a video surfaced on social media showing her driving a car with a toddler sitting on her lap behind the steering wheel.
According to police, a team from Khanapara Traffic Outpost traced the woman, identified as Sabita Das of Lakhimpur, and brought her for questioning. The video showed her driving a Tata Nexon (AS01GA8946) with a small child seated on her lap while the vehicle was in motion.
During questioning, Sabita Das stated that the video was recorded on June 2, 2026, at around 4:07 AM near Beltola in Guwahati. She informed police that the child seen in the video was her sister’s daughter.
Police counselled her about the serious risks and dangers associated with such irresponsible driving and warned her against repeating the act in the future.
Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against her under Section 184(f) of the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving. Police have also seized her driving licence, and the process for its suspension is currently underway.
Guwahati Traffic Police have urged motorists to follow road safety rules and ensure the safety of children while travelling in vehicles.
