Guwahati: A team from Guwahati City Police under Noonmati Police Station arrested a housemaid and another individual in connection with a theft case reported by her employer.
The accused housemaid, identified as Rina Begum, a resident of Nizarapar, was employed through NGO Jeevika Employment Services.
According to police, during interrogation Rina Begum confessed to stealing one pair of earrings, three gold rings and one gold chain from the employer’s residence.
Police also arrested Deepjyoti Das of Bapuji Nagar for allegedly receiving the stolen property.
During the investigation, police recovered ₹1,91,500 from Deepjyoti Das, who reportedly admitted that the amount was paid in exchange for the stolen gold chain.
Police said legal action has been initiated in connection with the case.
