Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has taken a significant initiative for students of Assam aspiring to appear in competitive examinations. Under its educational project titled ‘Pratyasha’, AASU is set to begin the application process for selecting the second batch of candidates for preparation for civil services examinations. The primary objective of this project is to produce more competent administrative officers from Assam and the entire Northeast region.
Addressing a press conference, AASU president Utpal Sharma informed that the application process will be opened on May 1 from 10 AM on AASU’s official website. Interested and eligible students can apply online until May 15, midnight. Applicants have been urged to fill in all details accurately and submit their forms within the stipulated time.
After the application process is completed, candidates will be able to download their admit cards between May 20 and May 25. The written selection examination will be held on May 31. Keeping the convenience of students in mind, AASU has increased the number of examination centres this time. The exam will be conducted simultaneously at four locations—Guwahati, New Delhi, Sivasagar, and Tezpur. Applicants will have the option to choose any centre as per their preference.
Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be invited for a personal interview. A total of 40 students will be selected through these two stages. Out of them, 26 candidates will be from Assam, while the remaining 14 will be selected from other Northeastern states through NESO.
Selected students will be provided with one-year residential coaching at a premier institute in Delhi. All expenses related to the training—including admission fees, tuition, and examinations—will be fully borne by AASU. In addition, each student will receive a monthly stipend of ₹12,000 during the training period.
It is noteworthy that the first batch of the ‘Pratyasha’ project had already been sent to Delhi in September last year and is currently undergoing training, which is scheduled to conclude in May. Based on the success of this initiative, AASU has decided to proceed with selecting the second batch.
AASU president Utpal Sharma stated that the number of students from Assam appearing for and clearing all-India examinations like UPSC is still relatively low. The main aim of this project is to bridge that gap and create a healthy competitive environment in the state. He urged all eligible and interested students to take advantage of this opportunity and apply.
The press conference was also attended by AASU’s Education Secretary Tutumoni Kalita and executive member Animesh Bhagawati.
