Guwahati: After the completion of voting for the Assembly elections in Assam, attention has now shifted to the results on May 4. However, even before the results, senior BJP leader and minister Ranjit Kumar Das has created a stir with a series of strong social media posts.
In his posts, Das has accused some members within his own party of being “traitors”. He said that in this election, he had to fight not only the opposition but also “internal enemies”.
Referring to the historic Battle of Waterloo, Das compared his situation to that of Napoleon Bonaparte. He wrote that just like Napoleon was attacked from two sides, a similar plan was made against him in the Bhawanipur–Sarbhog constituency.
Das claimed that some communist leaders and a few “traitors” from within his own side tried to defeat him with a joint strategy. However, he expressed strong confidence, saying, “I am not Napoleon, I am Ranjit. I know how to win battles.”
He also said that unlike Napoleon, he had prior information about the plan against him and prepared his strategy accordingly.
His comments have triggered discussion across Assam, especially as such statements from a senior leader of a disciplined party like Bharatiya Janata Party are seen as unusual.
Das is contesting against Manoranjan Talukdar of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the Sarbhog–Bhawanipur constituency.
Political observers say his remarks have brought attention to possible internal issues within the party. At the same time, his strong confidence has also become a topic of debate.
Whether his claims prove correct will be clear only after the election results are declared on May 4. Meanwhile, his statements have raised questions about who the “traitors” he mentioned actually are.
