Guwahati: The Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began today with a historic decision when the House agreed to discuss the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg.
The discussion was allowed after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma requested the Speaker to accept an adjournment motion moved by the opposition. This rare move is being seen as a significant moment in the history of the Assam Assembly.
Opposition Demands, Ruling Party Accepts — A Rare Moment
The opposition had demanded a full discussion on the singer’s death, calling it an issue of public concern. In an unexpected development, the ruling party agreed to the demand.

The one-member inquiry commission headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia has extended the deadline for collecting statements and documents to December 12. The panel is investigating:
