Jorhat: As part of the ongoing Sansad Khel Mahotsav in the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, a volleyball tournament was held on December 21, 2025, at Lahing Panbari Playground in Lahing under Mariani LAC. The event aimed to promote team sports, physical fitness, and community participation at the grassroots level.
Teams from different Assembly Constituencies within the Jorhat Lok Sabha took part in the tournament. A total of 10 teams competed in a knockout format, making the matches competitive and engaging throughout the day.
The event was attended by Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, and BJP Jorhat District President Santanu Pujari. The leaders interacted with players and encouraged them, highlighting the importance of sports and fitness among youth.
Addressing the gathering, Pabitra Margherita spoke about the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi behind the Sansad Khel Mahotsav. He said the initiative aims to strengthen India’s sports culture by supporting talent at the grassroots level.
The tournament ended with an exciting final match. The Majuli LAC team won the championship by defeating the Mariani LAC team with a 2–0 scoreline.
The volleyball tournament reflected the true spirit of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav by promoting unity, teamwork, and healthy competition, while giving local players a platform to showcase their talent.
