On September 12, 2024, at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, three traditional coats were launched: the Leirum Phee Coat, Shaphee Lanphee Coat, and Naga Shawl Haophee Coat. The event, organized by the PHD Chamber’s “Potential Northeast” team, was attended by Joyanta Basumatary, MP from Kokrajhar (Assam), along with other dignitaries.

The coats were developed by Kangabam Bijaya Chanu, an entrepreneur and social activist from Manipur, and president of the North East Women Entrepreneurs Association. They were designed and tailored by Basanta Lukram, proprietor of Basan L K Enterprises. These products are now applied for copyright protection, aiming to target global markets and improve the economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Manipur.

Chanu emphasized the products’ potential to reach global markets, providing income for local weavers and promoting Northeast India’s rich cultural heritage.
