Tinsukia: District-level auditions for Sur Sangam – Tea Garden Student Talent Hunt were held on January 16 and 17 at Senairam H.S. School, Tinsukia. The programme is a joint initiative of the Department of Education (Secondary), Government of Assam, and The Hans Foundation, North East.

A total of 63 students from all 22 tea garden model schools of Tinsukia district took part in the auditions. The participants were selected through school-level screenings under a structured music education programme.

Sur Sangam is part of The Hans Foundation’s Uttam Xikhya initiative, which aims to include music education in schools and support the overall development of students from tea garden communities.

District auditions are being held in Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh. Thirty students will qualify for the pre-state level competition in Dibrugarh on January 21, while 15 finalists will compete in the grand finale in Guwahati on February 10.

Officials said the programme focuses on talent identification, mentorship and confidence-building among students from tea garden areas.
