Guwahati: Doctors at Peerless Hospital Guwahati have successfully performed a complex revision joint replacement surgery on a 43-year-old woman who developed implant failure after undergoing a previously operated bilateral total hip arthroplasty.
The patient had been suffering from severe pain and difficulty in movement due to complications related to the earlier hip implants. Following detailed clinical evaluation, doctors recommended a revision surgery to correct the implant failure and restore stability and mobility.
The procedure was carried out under the ESIC scheme by orthopaedic specialist Dr Rituraj Neog (MBBS, MS Orthopaedics), who holds fellowships in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy as well as Ilizarov and Limb Reconstruction Surgery. The surgery was completed successfully without complications.
Hospital officials said the patient showed significant improvement after the operation and was able to regain stability within three days. She is expected to gradually resume her daily activities over the coming weeks with continued rehabilitation and follow-up care.
Speaking about the procedure, Dr Neog said that revision joint replacement surgeries are more complex than primary surgeries and require careful planning and execution. He added that with proper surgical technique and post-operative management, patients can regain mobility and return to normal functional activities.
Doctors emphasised that timely intervention in cases of implant failure is essential to prevent further complications and improve long-term outcomes. Such procedures require specialised expertise and structured post-operative care to ensure implant stability and recovery.
