Guwahati: A shocking incident took place at Pandu College in Guwahati after a student was found dead inside a hostel bathroom, creating panic and tension in the area.
The deceased student has been identified as Rubail Alam, a third-year undergraduate student of Pandu College. He was a resident of Hojai district. His body was recovered from the bathroom of Ambikagiri Ray Choudhury Boys’ Hostel located at Pandu.
According to information, the student had been missing for several days. His family had earlier informed the police about his disappearance. Rubail Alam reportedly went missing on December 12.
Jalukbari Police recovered the body and, during preliminary investigation, suspected suicide. Police said they found the student hanging inside the bathroom. An officer stated that the incident may have occurred on December 12, the day the student went missing.
However, the family of the deceased has raised serious doubts over the death and alleged it was not natural. They suspect murder and questioned why the bathroom remained locked for nearly six days without attracting attention from the authorities. The family also questioned why no suspicion arose despite the bathroom being closed for several days.
Sources said the hostel has multiple bathrooms, which is why residents did not pay attention to the closed bathroom for the last five days.
Police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Jalukbari Police have registered the case as a suspicious death and launched a detailed investigation from all angles.
The incident has created deep shock and concern among students and staff at Pandu College. Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the investigation and post-mortem report.
