State-Level NDLI Workshop Held at Assam down town University

Guwahati: A one-day state-level workshop on the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and the NDLI Club was successfully held at Assam down town University. The event was jointly organized by the university’s Hari Narayan Dutta Baruah Central Library and the NDLI team from IIT Kharagpur.

The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. N. N. Dutta, Chancellor of Assam down town University. Vice Chancellor Dr. N. C. Talukdar welcomed the guests and participants, setting a thoughtful tone for the sessions ahead.

Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Chancellor of Nagaland University, attended the event as Chief Guest and spoke on preserving traditional knowledge in the digital age. He highlighted the role of institutions like satras and stressed the value of indigenous knowledge systems.

Dr. B. Sutradhar, Joint Principal Investigator of NDLI, explained the features and outreach of NDLI and its club. He showed how digital platforms are improving access to academic resources. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Pranveer Singh and Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh also spoke about the need for knowledge sharing and the impact of digital transformation in education.

The second session featured technical talks and drew over 250 participants, including teachers, librarians, and students from across Northeast India. Experts like Dr. Prasanta Kumar Deka and Mr. Sobhan Nath delivered lectures, while Dr. Sutradhar also conducted an interactive quiz.

Notable attendees included Prof. Bandana Dutta, Architect Biswa Dutta, Registrar Dr. Ashim Barman, Dr. Ruhit Jyoti Konwar, and Prof. Utpal Datta. Dr. Rubi Goswami, the lead convenor, said similar national-level workshops will be held soon.

The event was smoothly anchored by Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay and Dr. Dimpi Das Pathak, ensuring a structured flow throughout the sessions.

The workshop served as an important step in spreading awareness about digital academic resources and encouraging their active use in the region.
