Guwahati: A shocking murder incident was reported in Guwahati on the day of Holi, where a 23-year-old son allegedly killed his father with a sharp weapon following a domestic dispute. The incident took place on Dilip Huzuri Path in the Super Market area of the city on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the incident came to light after a call was received through Dial 100 informing authorities that a young man had killed his father at their residence. Police from Dispur Police Station rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information.
The deceased has been identified as Manish Choudhury (50), a businessman by profession. The accused has been identified as Riyan Choudhury (23), an engineering graduate who was reportedly preparing for his M.Tech studies.
Following the incident, the accused youth surrendered before the police.
Preliminary investigation by the police and statements from family members suggest that the incident may have occurred due to a domestic dispute. At the time of the incident, an argument was reportedly taking place between the victim and his wife. Police suspect that the son may have attacked his father while trying to protect his mother during the altercation.
Sources also indicated that the accused was studying in Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, forensic (FSL) and crime scene teams have reached the spot and started collecting evidence.
Police said the investigation is currently at a preliminary stage, and further details will emerge as the probe progresses.
