Guwahati: Assam is facing a severe flood situation with three river sites—Dhansiri (South) at Golaghat and Numaligarh, and the Dikhow River in Sivasagar—crossing danger levels, according to the Central Water Commission’s (CWC) latest flood bulletin.

In Numaligarh, thousands of people are affected, with many trapped in their homes due to heavy flooding. The Dhansiri River breached a sluice gate at Kenduguri, causing major waterlogging in the area.

In total, seven rivers in Assam have crossed warning levels at various monitoring points. The CWC has also reported that 19 river sites across India are flowing above warning levels, including in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur, warning of continued heavy rainfall and potential worsening of the flood situation.

Cabinet Minister Ajanta Neog visited several flood relief camps in the flood-affected areas of the Golaghat Assembly constituency on Monday.

During the visit, she interacted with families taking shelter in the camps to understand their situation and needs.

“I am here to listen to the concerns of the flood-affected people and understand both the benefits and challenges they are facing in the camps. I am committed to helping find effective solutions to their problems,” said Minister Neog.

The minister assured the people that the government is taking all necessary steps to provide support and relief during this difficult time.
