Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora launched a strong attack on the BJP-led Assam government during a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan on Friday. He accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his government of being anti-indigenous and working under the influence of Nagpur and big corporate houses like Adani, Ambani, and Ramdev.

Other senior Congress leaders, including former minister Rajiv Lochan Pegu, MLA Jadab Swargiary, and former MLA Raju Sahu, were also present.

Bora said the indigenous people of Assam had trusted BJP in 2016 and 2021 when it promised to protect their identity, land, and roots (Jati-Mati-Bheti). But instead, the BJP government has betrayed that trust. “This government is only working to please Delhi’s masters and business tycoons,” Bora said.

He announced that the Congress will soon release 30 documents proving the BJP’s actions against indigenous people. He recalled past incidents, like the 2017 Amchang eviction drive, Raha AIIMS protest where people from the indigenous community, died in police firing.

Referring to the chief minister’s recent comment against Rahul Gandhi, Bora said, “You are showing disrespect to the leader of the oldest national party. Having a fig doesn’t give anyone the right to insult.”
