Guwahati: A protest meeting was held at the Gauhati Press Club against alleged attacks on the media. The meeting was chaired by senior journalist Haidar Hussain, who expressed concern over the situation and said press freedom is being affected.
All Assam Journalists’ Association President Pankaj Nath urged journalists to unite and continue raising questions in the interest of the public. He also criticised remarks made against media houses like Asomiya Pratidin and DY365.
Senior journalists including Munin Bayan, Nitumoni Saikia, Afrida Hussain, and Susanta Talukdar spoke at the meeting. They raised concerns over media safety, attacks on journalists, and called for unity among media persons. Suggestions were also made to form an independent body to address security issues.
Other speakers included Ranen Kumar Goswami, Anjan Jyoti Sharma, Samim Sultana Ahmed, and Deepak Kumar Barman. Journalists from different media houses attended the protest.
The meeting ended with resolutions read by Press Club President Khagen Kalita.

- A public meeting will be held during Bohag on the issue of media safety.
- Other press clubs were asked to organise similar protests.
- Memorandums will be sent to authorities like the Election Commission, Press Council of India, and government officials regarding attacks on journalists.
