PM Narendra Modi to Visit Assam, Join ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ on Brahmaputra Cruise

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on December 20 for a two-day programme.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will take part in the popular interaction programme ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ with 25 to 30 students from Assam. The discussion will take place on a cruise on the Brahmaputra River.

The Prime Minister will board the vessel from the newly inaugurated river terminal in Guwahati. On December 21, he will interact with students of Classes 9, 10 and 11 while travelling on the ship Charaideu. The Chief Minister said the entire country will watch this special edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha with great interest.

On December 20, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. The terminal has been built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore. He will also unveil an 80-foot statue of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi at the airport, which is named after the former Assam Chief Minister.

Chief Minister Sarma said the airport has been beautifully developed. He also informed that the government plans to construct an additional road from the airport up to Jalukbari.

During his Assam visit, Prime Minister Modi will attend a meeting with BJP workers at the party’s state office. He will also pay tribute at the Shaheed Smarak Kshetra at Boragaon in Guwahati, built in memory of 860 martyrs of the historic Assam Movement. The Chief Minister said this will be the first time a Prime Minister pays tribute to Assam’s national martyrs.

The Prime Minister will also address public meetings on December 20 in Kamrup and on December 21 in Namrup. The Chief Minister said the Centre and the Assam government plan to jointly revive the Namrup fertiliser plant to produce 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea.

After the Prime Minister’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also visit Assam for several key programmes. He will visit Bordowa and Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva. He will also inaugurate the Jyoti–Bishnu Auditorium and lay the foundation stone of the new Assam Legislative Assembly building in Dibrugarh.
