Guwahati: The Assam BJP said that the BJP-led NDA government is working with a strong focus on people’s welfare and development. In a press release, the party said Assam’s fast growth and major infrastructure development have gained national attention in recent years.

Assam BJP spokesperson Dr Angkita Dutta said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state has seen major progress in areas like employment, women’s empowerment, peace, and development. She said these efforts have created new hope and confidence among the people of Assam.

The BJP said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a deep connection with Assam and the Northeast. After taking office in 2014, he changed the Look East Policy into the Act East Policy, placing Assam at the centre of Northeast development. The party said the Prime Minister has visited the Northeast 75 times in 11 years, including more than 35 visits to Assam, making him the most frequent visiting Prime Minister to the region.

Dr Dutta said Prime Minister Modi will visit Assam on a two-day tour on December 20 and 21. The visit is expected to bring new development projects and strengthen Assam’s growth journey.

The BJP highlighted that Assam’s railway budget has increased from ₹2,100 crore during 2009–2014 to nearly ₹10,000 crore per year. The length of four-lane national highways has increased from 900 km to 3,800 km. Three new bridges over the Brahmaputra are complete, and six more are under construction.

The party also said the Centre has invested ₹5,000 crore in inland waterways and upgraded airports to turn Assam into a trade gateway to Southeast Asia.

In the health sector, Assam received its first AIIMS, and the number of medical colleges has increased from six to thirteen. The BJP also mentioned the expansion of the Numaligarh Refinery, the setting up of an IIM, and the upcoming semiconductor project at Jagiroad.

The BJP said peace has improved after the Bodo Peace Accord and steps taken for six indigenous communities.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the new terminal of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. He will pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi and the martyrs of the Assam Movement. He will also lay the foundation stone of a new unit of the Namrup Fertiliser Plant.

The Prime Minister will also spend time on the banks of the Brahmaputra and interact with 25 students under the “Pariksha Pe Charcha” programme. The BJP said this interaction may help promote Brahmaputra-based tourism.

Dr Angkita Dutta said the Assam BJP warmly welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She added that his visit will bring new hope, confidence, and inspiration to the people of Assam.
