Over Nine Thousand Posts Lying Vacant in Assam Health Department

Guwahati: A total of 9,808 posts are lying vacant in Assam’s Health Department. This information was given Friday in the Assam Legislative Assembly in response to a question raised by MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar.

Out of this, 1,970 posts are vacant under the Directorate of Health Services (DHS). Among them, advertisements have already been issued for Account Assistant-cum-LDA/Junior Assistant (72), Basic Health Worker (41), and Health Educator (78).

Further, the selection process for ANM (181), Staff Nurse (442), and Staff Nurse (Critical Care) (265) — total 444 posts has been completed. Appointment letters will be issued soon.

Under the Directorate of Health Services (Family Welfare), 809 posts are currently vacant. Out of these, the process for filling 636 posts is complete and appointment letters will be issued shortly. Recruitment for the remaining 173 posts will be taken up soon.

The office of the Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Assam, has 63 vacant posts, of which advertisements for 16 posts have already been published.

Under the AYUSH Directorate, 15 posts are vacant.

Under the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, a total of 6,951 posts are lying vacant. These will be filled as per departmental policy depending on requirement.

Regarding new Sub-Health Centres in Assam, the department stated that under the PMABHIM scheme, 768 building-less Sub-Health Centres were approved during 2021–22 and 2022–23, and tenders have been issued for all.
So far, construction of 333 centres has been completed, while work for 357 centres is in progress.

Under the 15th Finance Commission, 399 Sub-Health Centres have been approved. Out of these, tenders have been issued for 9 centres; 7 centres are complete, and 2 are under construction. Administrative approval has been granted for 71 centres, and tendering is under process. Site selection for the remaining 319 centres is ongoing.
