Guwahati: In a major clean-up exercise ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has identified 1,67,925 dead electors during the massive Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SR-2026).
The detection came as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducted an intensive house-to-house verification drive across the state from November 22 to December 2. A total of 29,68,961 households were visited as part of the process.
Officials said the identification of such a large number of deceased voters is a significant step towards ensuring accuracy, transparency and integrity of Assam’s electoral database.
