Mumbai: Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce for Affirmative Action (ICCAA), Sunil Zode, has called for more support and cooperation to promote filmmakers from North East India. Speaking at the Northeast International Film Festival (NIIFF) in Mumbai, he said the region is full of talent and culture but still faces many challenges in cinema.

Mr. Zode praised the creativity of North East filmmakers but pointed out problems like lack of funds, marketing support, and audience reach. He urged the government and film industry to create special schemes and collaborations for North East cinema.

He also asked mainstream filmmakers to work with artists from the region — “not as charity, but as an investment in India’s cultural diversity,” he said.

The festival was attended by several dignitaries and organised by Shiraj Henry, Mohan Das, Anuraj Tripathi, Rebecca Changkija Sema, and Jutikaa Mahanta. The NIIFF continues to be an important platform to showcase North East India’s films and stories to a wider audience.
