Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Wednesday launched a new fleet of sanitation vehicles to strengthen cleanliness and waste management in the city.
The newly inducted machinery includes four sweeping machines, 50 auto tippers, seven suction machines and 14 dump tanks. The vehicles will be used for mechanised street cleaning, solid waste collection and maintenance of drains across Guwahati.
The sanitation fleet was flagged off near the APSC Building by Jayanta Malla Baruah, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs. Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Deputy Mayor Smita Roy, GMC Commissioner Chinmoy Prakash Phukoon, Additional Commissioner Dr Dhruba Jyoti Hazarika, councillors and senior GMC officials were present at the event.
Officials said the new machines will improve efficiency, ensure timely waste removal and help keep the city clean. The initiative is in line with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
