Guwahati: The fourth International Winter Trade Fair was formally inaugurated on Sunday at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Betkuchi, Guwahati. Organised by the Assam Trade Development Authority, the 18-day-long trade fair was inaugurated by Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora.
Inaugurating the fair, Minister Bora said that by organising trade fairs across different parts of the state, the Assam Trade Development Authority has opened new market opportunities for local entrepreneurs. He expressed hope that such initiatives would have a significant positive impact on the state’s economy and contribute to the growth of entrepreneurship in Assam.
Addressing the inaugural function, Assam Trade Development Authority Chairman Sunil Deka said that since 2022, the authority has been organising trade fairs across various regions of the state with the objective of providing a wider market platform to local entrepreneurs. He added that through these fairs, coordination between entrepreneurs from India and abroad is being strengthened, creating new avenues for the growth of Assam’s indigenous industries.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by ATDA Vice-Chairman Madhuram Deka, Managing Director Selim Raja Mondal, Deputy Managing Director Abhishek Saikia and several other distinguished guests.
Prior to the inauguration, Minister Atul Bora and Chairman Sunil Deka inaugurated a special tribute zone at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in honour of legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his birth centenary and popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, paying floral tributes to both cultural icons.
The trade fair has attracted participation from over 150 stalls representing various districts of Assam, along with exhibitors from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Kerala and Mumbai. International exhibitors from Afghanistan, Thailand and Dubai have also taken part in the fair.
As part of the event, special cultural programmes are being organised daily, including tribute performances dedicated to Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg. Every evening, popular artists will present cultural performances, adding to the attraction of the trade fair.
