Diganta Mahanta, Karbi Anglong: At least four people lost their lives and 10 others were injured after a passenger bus met with a serious road accident in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district early Saturday morning.
According to officials, the accident took place around 3:30 am at Lakkhijan under Bokajan police station area. The bus (AS 21AC 3356) was travelling from Moirabari in Morigaon district to Dimapur in Nagaland.
Police said the bus lost control while taking a sharp turn and crashed into a roadside tree at Lakkhijan. The impact was very strong, and four passengers, including the driver, died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Barek, Khalil Rahman, Chabina Sultana and Alal Uddin.Ten other passengers, including a child, were injured in the accident. The injured were taken to a hospital in Dimapur for treatment.
Passengers who survived the crash said the bus was moving at a high speed before the accident happened. When the bus reached a bend in the Lakkhijan area, the driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle hit a large tree beside the road. Police reached the accident spot soon after the incident and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the accident is underway.
